Telangana is celebrating its 12th Formation Day today (Tuesday). The state of Telangana was formed on June 2, 2014. In a post shared on Tuesday morning, President Droupadi Murmu extended her greetings to the people of Telangana on the occasion of State Formation Day, noting that the state has made significant strides in innovation and development over the past few years.
She stated, “Heartfelt greetings to the people of Telangana on State Formation Day! Telangana is blessed with a rich cultural heritage and hardworking people. The state has made significant progress in innovation and development over the last few years. I wish for the continued growth and prosperity of the people of Telangana.”
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also extended his greetings to the people of Telangana. In a post shared this morning, he remarked that the people of Telangana are known for their spirit of innovation and entrepreneurship. He further added, “The state is renowned for its glorious culture and history, standing as a symbol of courage and determination. The Central Government remains committed to supporting Telangana’s developmental journey in realizing our vision of a ‘Viksit Bharat’ (Developed India). I pray for the good health and success of the people of the state.”
Under the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, 2014, Telangana was officially carved out of Andhra Pradesh, thereby becoming the 29th state of the Indian Union following a struggle spanning nearly 57 years. The movement gained fresh momentum in 2001 under the leadership of Kalvakuntla Chandrashekar Rao (KCR), who founded the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (now BRS) and spearheaded a tireless campaign demanding a separate state. Ultimately, KCR became the first Chief Minister of the newly formed state, assuming office on June 2, 2014—the very day the region officially separated from Andhra Pradesh. Appreciating his contributions, the BRS posted a message in Telugu on Monday, stating: “Telangana means KCR… KCR means Telangana.” On the occasion of Telangana State Formation Day on Tuesday, Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy unveiled a comprehensive roadmap for welfare, governance reforms, and long-term economic transformation, stating that under the ‘Telangana Rising – 2047’ vision, the state is on track to become “a one-trillion-dollar economy by 2034 and a three-trillion-dollar economy by 2047.”
In his address on Telangana State Formation Day, Reddy remarked, “The ‘Telangana Rising – 2047’ plan possesses the transformative power to position Telangana not merely as a key player within the nation, but as a global gateway to the world. This plan reflects the government’s unwavering resolve to transform Telangana into a one-trillion-dollar economy by 2034, and subsequently into a three-trillion-dollar economy by 2047.” Describing housing as a matter of dignity for the poor, the Chief Minister stated, “Owning a home is a lifelong dream for the poor, as it serves as the very foundation of their self-identity.”
Highlighting the state’s flagship ‘Indiramma Housing Scheme,’ he noted, “We have allocated ₹22,500 crore in the first year and sanctioned 45 lakh Indiramma houses.” He further added that one lakh houses have already been completed within 13 months, and the remaining two lakh will be completed by September 17.
Reddy stated that the government has significantly expanded food security measures. He said, “We have issued 15,12,000 new ration cards, and now 30,038,000 people are able to enjoy meals prepared with high-quality rice.” He identified housing and food security as the two pillars of welfare. Turning to social reforms, the Chief Minister emphasized the need to further strengthen the protection of the elderly. Referring to new legislation aimed at ensuring accountability in the care of the elderly, he remarked, “It is truly distressing to witness children neglecting their responsibility to care for their parents.” On labor reforms, he highlighted a new framework for gig workers.
