Uttarakhand: A major political development has emerged. A special session of the Uttarakhand Legislative Assembly is scheduled to be held in Gairsain (Bhararisain)—the state’s summer capital—on October 27 and 28. The government, led by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, decided to convene this session with due regard for the sentiments of statehood agitators and the development of the hill regions.
Approval for the session was granted during a recent cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Dhami, who was also authorized to finalize the dates and venue. Consequently, the session is now set to take place at the Bhararisain Assembly building in Gairsain during the last week of October.
Political Activity Heats Up in the Hills During Election Year
This session in Gairsain is considered highly significant in light of the assembly elections scheduled for next year. It will be the sixth assembly session held in Gairsain during the Dhami government’s current tenure. Through this session, the government aims to send a strong message regarding the all-round development of the hill region, regional aspirations, and decentralized governance during the election year.
Opposition’s Strategy and Political Maneuvering
With elections approaching, legislators from both the ruling party and the opposition are prepared to vigorously raise issues concerning their respective constituencies on the floor of the House. The opposition is also formulating a strategy to corner the government on pressing public issues just ahead of the polls. Political analysts believe that this session will prove to be the final major opportunity for both sides to bolster their political standing and take stock of the past five years of governance. Administrative preparations and stringent security arrangements underway
With the dates for the session approaching, preparations at the administrative level for the Bhararisain (Gairsain) Assembly building have been intensified. Instructions have been issued to the concerned district administration and police officials to ensure all arrangements are in place. Additional police forces will be deployed to maintain tight security during the session, and entry into the premises will not be permitted without a valid pass.
