Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended the 57th convocation ceremony of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi as the chief guest on Saturday. At this grand event, degrees were awarded to over 3,000 students, including 587 PhD scholars. Addressing the gathering, PM Modi expressed happiness over the students’ achievements. He remarked that just as the students’ families feel proud of their children’s accomplishments today, he too takes pride in the students. He noted that while all the students are gathered here together, they likely harbor diverse thoughts about the future—adding, “I may not be Baba Bageshwar, but I know this.”
The Prime Minister stated that students are not merely leaving IIT Delhi with a degree but are also carrying forward the dream of doing something for the nation. He advised the students to make this special day memorable and to always cherish their journey.
In his address, PM Modi said, “Many of you might be missing the parathas from the Satpura Mess right now. Some students might wish to spend a few more moments at ‘Wind T’. Whenever you visit these places, do remember me. Some students might want to visit their departments one last time, while others might wish to spend a little more time at their favorite spots on campus.”
He further added, “Amidst these emotional moments, I wish to share something with you. Whenever life gives you a chance to look back, you will recall the days spent on campus—your friends, teachers, mentors, and support staff who gradually became like family. You will remember the professors who took on the responsibility of honing the talents of brilliant students like you and shaping you for the better. You will also remember this campus, which slowly became your second home. Whatever success you achieve in life, you will certainly remember the contributions of all these people.” During a lighthearted moment at the ceremony, PM Modi playfully remarked on what might be on the students’ minds. He said that while he is no ‘Baba Bageshwar’, he knows that every student is likely pondering various thoughts regarding careers, salaries, starting life in a new city, or startups. Modi noted that everyone’s path and dreams are different, yet the journey—from their early days at IIT Delhi to the convocation ceremony—must have been truly special for all the students.
