An autorickshaw driver was beaten to death by passengers after failing to return ₹10 change in Vattepally under Rajendranagar police station limits late on Sunday night. The deceased was identified as Mohammed Mukarram, a resident of Vattepally. Police said Azeem, a local, along with associates, hired his auto from Falaknuma to Vattepally.
The dispute arose when Azeem gave a ₹200 note as fare. Mukarram said he did not have ₹10 change and would return it later. Azeem got agitated, police said.
Abusing Mukarram, Azeem claimed to be a local reporter and called six associates with criminal backgrounds. They allegedly assaulted Mukarram in front of his wife and children, causing fatal internal injuries. AIMIM Bahadurpura MLA Mohd Mubeen met the deceased’s family and demanded stern action against unsocial elements creating panic in Vattepally.
The MLA urged Rajendranagar DCP to increase night patrolling for residents’ safety and security. Police said three persons have been detained in connection with the murder. “Apart from murder and extortion cases, we will invoke the PD Act and file a strong charge sheet as per law,” a senior officer said.
