Uttarakhand: The state is placing a strong emphasis on promoting solar energy with the aim of fostering a clean energy revolution within the region. In line with this objective, the Council on Energy, Environment and Water (CEEW) has prepared a ‘Solar Awareness Booklet’ designed to raise public awareness regarding solar energy. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami formally unveiled this booklet, which was developed by the CEEW. Speaking on the occasion, CM Dhami stated that this initiative represents not merely the release of a booklet, but rather a symbol of the collective resolve to build a bright, self-reliant, and green future for Uttarakhand.
Furthermore, CM Dhami observed that the entire world is currently grappling with climate change, energy crises, and environmental challenges. In such times, solar energy is no longer merely an alternative; it has become a necessity for ensuring a secure future for generations to come. Under the guidance of Prime Minister Modi, Uttarakhand has achieved significant milestones through the ‘Pradhanmantri Surya Ghar Yojana’ (Prime Minister’s Solar Home Scheme), serving as an inspiration for the entire nation.
He stated that the state has achieved its initial target of 40,000 rooftop solar plants ahead of schedule. Approximately 95 percent of the work regarding the targeted plants has already been completed. In terms of effectively implementing the ‘PM Surya Ghar Yojana’ (PM Sun Home Scheme), Uttarakhand has today ascended to the ranks of the top-performing states in the country. CM Dhami noted that, in just two years—from 2024 to the present—the state has recorded a nearly tenfold increase in its solar energy capacity.
Uttarakhand has successfully installed residential rooftop solar plants with a combined capacity of approximately 290 megawatts. He remarked that this constitutes a historic achievement in the ongoing endeavor to build a self-reliant Uttarakhand in the energy sector. Commending the coordinated efforts of UPCL, UREDA, regional officials, and all other departments and agencies associated with this initiative, the Chief Minister asserted that this success is the result of the collective dedication of “Team Uttarakhand.” Chief Minister Pushkar Dhami stated that the ‘Saur Kauthig’ (Solar Fair)—organized by the state government—along with extensive public awareness campaigns, street plays, and specialized training programs for officials, has fostered an environment of awareness regarding solar energy across the state. The state government’s objective is not merely to install solar plants, but to empower every citizen to become an active participant in the clean energy revolution.
He further noted that the widespread utilization of solar energy would lead to a reduction in electricity expenses for common citizens and significantly bolster environmental conservation efforts. Moreover, it would ensure a clean, safe, and green future for generations to come. Chief Minister Dhami expressed confidence that, in the times ahead, Uttarakhand would emerge as an inspiring and exemplary model for the entire nation in the field of renewable energy.
