Uttarakhand: The state-level SDG Achievers Awards ceremony concluded at the Uday Shankar Academy of Dance and Music in Almora. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami participated in the event as the Chief Guest.
For this year, 32 organizations, individuals, and groups were honored for their innovative and sustainable initiatives. Additionally, six districts were awarded for securing the top three positions in the annual district-level SDG rankings. The Chief Minister congratulated the award winners.
Addressing the SDG Achievers Awards ceremony, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami stated that today’s occasion serves to honor all those personalities and institutions that have made exemplary contributions in various fields through innovation, excellence, and service to society.
Welcoming and felicitating all the dignitaries and institutions, he remarked that it is a matter of great pride for him to be in the presence of such dedicated workers—individuals who, through the strength of their dedication, hard work, and resolve, have worked continuously to bring about positive change in society.
Expressing his delight, the Chief Minister noted that representatives from 32 dynamic industrial institutions—which have made significant contributions toward the realization of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)—have been honored. He asserted that these institutions have demonstrated that, despite limited resources, extraordinary achievements can be attained, and the journey from the ordinary to the extraordinary is indeed possible.
He further stated that a hill state like Uttarakhand faces numerous challenges every year; however, balanced and sustainable development is possible only when environmental conservation and development proceed hand-in-hand. If these two elements become disconnected, development remains incomplete. Guided by this philosophy of balancing ‘Ecology and Economy,’ and under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, continuous efforts are being made to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals by the year 2030.
The Chief Minister highlighted that, at one point, Uttarakhand ranked 10th in NITI Aayog’s SDG India Index; however, according to the latest report, the state has now ascended to the first position nationwide. He stated that there are still several parameters requiring further improvement, and the government is working rapidly in those areas as well. He noted that the state government is consistently undertaking effective work in key sectors such as good governance, welfare for the poor, development of border regions, and the provision of basic amenities like electricity, water, and roads.
He remarked that securing the top position in the SDG rankings serves as proof that Uttarakhand’s developmental journey is progressing in the right direction. Uttarakhand is playing a pivotal role in the realization of a ‘Developed India,’ and systematic efforts are being undertaken to ensure the holistic development of the state. The formulation of specific policies tailored to each sector has significantly accelerated the state’s overall development.
He further added that these collective efforts have yielded tangible results, evidenced by a recorded growth of 7.23 percent in the state’s GDP and a 4.1 percent increase in per capita income. Furthermore, by achieving a record reduction of 4.4 percent in the unemployment rate, Uttarakhand has outperformed the national average.
