Uttarakhand: With the upcoming assembly elections just a few months away, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami’s government is once again set to hold a Cabinet meeting outside the capital, Dehradun. A meeting was held recently in the border district of Champawat, and preparations are now underway for one in Haridwar. Specifically, a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami is scheduled for October 12 at 11:00 AM in the auditorium of the CCR Building in Haridwar.
According to available information, the meeting is expected to focus primarily on finalizing the dates for the upcoming assembly session. Additionally, the government may hold another Cabinet meeting in Gairsain (Chamoli district) between October 21 and 24. Once the Cabinet decides on the dates, the Legislative Assembly Secretariat will complete the necessary formalities.
It is worth noting that the Dhami government has been consistently holding Cabinet meetings in various parts of the state ahead of the assembly elections. Holding a meeting in Haridwar—following the one in Champawat—is considered politically significant. Haridwar is the state’s largest district in the plains and holds immense political importance; it encompasses issues ranging from religious tourism (including the Kumbh Mela) and industrial zones to urban expansion, pollution (specifically concerning the Ganga), employment, and infrastructure development. Consequently, moving the Cabinet meeting from Dehradun to Haridwar is viewed as part of a strategy to ensure outreach across the entire state. Furthermore, preparations are being made to hold a meeting in Gairsain between October 21 and 24 regarding the assembly session.
The government’s move to hold meetings in districts other than the capital is seen as an effort to establish a direct connection with the local populace ahead of the assembly elections. Holding a meeting outside Dehradun during an election year has suddenly become a topic of public discussion. It is being said that for the Dhami government, the biggest challenge ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections is to strike a political balance across the state’s various regions.
