Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s visit to the United States has been cancelled. The trip was called off because approval was not granted by the Union Ministry of External Affairs. Revanth Reddy is currently on a visit to London. According to the original schedule, he was supposed to travel from London to the US on the 23rd of this month; however, he will now return directly to Hyderabad from London.
Under existing rules, Chief Ministers are required to obtain approval from the Union Ministry of External Affairs for foreign visits. The state government had written to the Centre well in advance regarding Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s tour of the UK and the US. However, the Ministry approved only the UK leg of the trip and did not grant permission for the US visit.
Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has responded to the Centre’s refusal to approve the US visit. He stated that permission was denied due to political reasons and expressed surprise that the trip was blocked on political grounds.
In a statement, the Chief Minister said, “My goal is to implement the Centre’s New Education Policy and bring excellent educational institutions to Telangana. The sole objective of this visit was to attract world-class institutions. I believed that this foreign visit would contribute to building a ‘Viksit Bharat’ (Developed India). I believe in rising above politics when it comes to the country’s development.”
The Chief Minister has instructed the team of officials to proceed with the US visit. He has directed them to finalize all Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) and partnerships with universities as planned.
After attending the Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting in Delhi two days ago, the Chief Minister left directly for London. On Friday, August 21, he will visit the Blavatnik School of Government at Oxford University. In the evening, he will attend an EPL football presentation event at the Emirates Stadium.
A meeting with a team from Cambridge is scheduled for August 22. Following that, he will visit Senate House at the University of London campus and tour the London Business School in the evening. The Chief Minister will depart for Hyderabad on August 23 after completing his London visit.
